CourseLeaf Curriculum Inventory Managment

Coming in Summer 2025!

The CourseLeaf Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) system will become available in Summer 2025. In addition to replacing CAR and GPAR, CIM will also for the first time serve as an online workflow and curriculum management system for curriculum proposals that don't have an existing workflow system, such as undergraduate program proposals.

CIM has a number of advantages over UConn's existing curriculum governance tools:

  • Direct catalog and Student Administration System integration, meaning less copying and pasting, fewer errors, and faster processing times.
  • A transparent curriculum "Ecosystem" will alert proposers to potential impacts of curriculum changes. For example, if a user submits a proposal to drop a course, CIM will show them everywhere that course appears in the catalog so that they are aware of other curriculum changes that may be required.
  • A smarter, more flexible workflow engine will allow the approval process to be simplified when appropriate. Unlike the current workflow systems that treat simple and complex proposals exactly the same, the new system will give curriculum committee chairs the option of expedited reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the last date to submit proposals through the CAR and GPAR systems?

February 1, 2025.

What are the undergraduate and graduate catalog deadlines?

These deadlines will remain unchanged. The deadline for course revisions is February 5. The date by which undergraduate program proposals must be approved for inclusion in the 2025-26 edition of the undergraduate catalog is February 5. For graduate program proposals, the deadline is March 1.

When are CAR and GPAR being shut down for existing proposals?

July 1, 2025.

Can pending proposals be migrated into the new CourseLeaf system?

No – any proposals still pending at the time CAR and GPAR are shut down will need to be recreated in CourseLeaf.

Is the CourseLeaf system the same one that is currently being used for scheduling?

Not quite. Although users of both systems will log in via the same URL (uconn-next.courseleaf.com), scheduling and curriculum management are done via two separate modules. Scheduling is done via CLSS – CourseLeaf Section Scheduler. The curriculum module is called CIM – Curriculum Inventory Management.  CIM is pronounced like the name “Kim.”

When will CIM become available?

We expect the implementation project to be complete in July 2025, with the actual go-live date to be determined.

Will there be training?

Yes. In addition to training provided by the vendor, the Registrar’s Office will prepare job aids and other materials to help users become familiar with the new system.

What if I want to submit a proposal after the February 1 CAR and GPAR deadline but before CourseLeaf is available?

Once the February 1 deadline passes, we ask that faculty hold off on any new proposals until the CourseLeaf system is available. Because the catalog deadlines will have passed, any proposals submitted after the deadline could not be included in the 2025-26 editions of the catalogs anyway.
